God has lots of names, Creator, Jehovah, the unspeakable YHWH (Can I buy a vowel?) among others.
My favorite. today anyway - I AM WHO I AM, or I AM.
God told Moses to tell the Israelites that I AM sent him.
God has always been there, always will be there.
In the beginning you must believe something was [...]

For the Israelites it was called bondage. For the rest of us, spiritual Israel if you will, it is called sin.
When they/we finally realize that the bondage/sin is too heavy to carry, they/we cry out to God and the call for help rises up.
Something about - most people don’t look up until they are flat [...]

Whew! It took me nearly three months to ramble my way through Genesis. At that pace, 3 months x 69 books, I could be here for 17 more years.
Hmmm….maybe Haggai won’t take that long, but I am sure the Gospels will take longer.
Who knows.
Still…
Exodus - “…a new king arose over Egypt, who did not [...]

Yesterday, while praying mind you, I found myself complaining because I had to take a detour.
There was no good reason for the detour, from my perspective, other than the fact the cones had been put out. Work had not started. Two quick turns and I could have been where I wanted. Instead, I had to [...]

My favorite people to watch when presidents, heads of states and prime ministers sit in those high-back chairs in huge rooms and talk about how they should cooperate to make the world a better place are the two men or women, both sitting at the shoulder of the world leaders and whispering in their ears…kind [...]

“Why’s everybody always picking on me?’ asks Charlie Brown in that 50’s song.
Why do these bad things happen to me?
How come I am the only one who has to go through this?
How come I always get the bad breaks?
Joseph didn’t ask himself these questions. He already knew the answer.
“….do not be grieved or angry with [...]

Success…where’s it come from? How can one be assured of it?
Connections? Starting at the top? Lots of money from the get go?
How about starting at the absolute bottom? With no support structure? No schooling?
That’s where Joseph started.
His brother’s sold him to gypsies on their way to Egypt when he was just a boy.
He eventually [...]

How long do you think people can talk about you before they think of something bad to say?
As for me, I wonder how long they will talk before they find something good.
In the Good Book, every main character has their flaws pointed out as well as their successes. It gives the Good Book and its [...]

“You shall no longer be called Jacob. But Israel shall be your name…. And the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give to you. And I will give the land to your descendants.”
When a promise goes back so far and comes from the originator of promises and promise keepers, a person, [...]

Jacob was in love with Rachel. Rachel’s father, Laban, had two daughters. Rachel was the younger and Leah was the older.
The Bible writer describes the two -
Rachel was beautiful of form and face or appearance.
Leah’s eyes were weak. Leah’s eyes were weak was the best compliment that could be found for the older of [...]

Most people don’t look up until they’re flat on their back.
It’s true. Most people don’t seek out God until they are in desperate straits. Indeed, people will make promises to God they very likely don’t intend to keep when they are flattened out, or in some cases just promise to find God.
“God if you [...]

I remember the years after my father died, now almost 25 years ago. The peculiar thing was the for some reason the things he always told me as a youngster became more vivid in my memory. Quite frequently I would tell my kids “Pop used to say in a case like this….”
By far, one of [...]
