CalHigh

I am not a prophet nor the son of a prophet. (See Amos 7:14) But every now and then I get a glimpse into the future.

Today, maybe I saw a bit of the days to come at CalHigh in San Ramon, CA – San Ramon Valley Unified School District: California High.

I was invited to speak to a group of future entrepreneurs, headed up by Zahra Siddique. My assignment to let the young people know about how I do the blogging thing and how it pays my bills.

But if you ask me, I want to know how 14-year old Zahra was able to get 40 some people all in a room at the same time, quiet (while eating their lunches) and attentive?

Now THAT’s leadership. Well done, Zahra. Seriously, can you teach me how you did that?

I spent more time in the car driving to and from San Ramon from my home in Sunnyvale but the 20 minutes of jumping up and down (it’s how I talk – can’t help it) and the 10 minutes of Q & A that followed made the trip well worth it.

Librarians, teachers, advisors and the principal were there, too! It’s the first time in my life a principal ever came to where I was. I was always sent to the principal.

Mark Corti, principal, pondered out loud, “Maybe we could offer something like this for a class or for extra credit…”

I don’t know if I will go back to CalHigh or not. But I am pretty sure that I will see some of those young people online somewhere in the blogosphere…adding to the discussion, making a difference.

But then, I am not a prophet nor the son of a prophet.
